Thomas I. Acosta
Tom began his career in 1973 as a Labor official with District 65 United Auto Workers and was elected Vice-President, with the
responsibility for negotiating collective bargaining agreements, directing organizing campaigns, and the establishment of an
educational program for the Union's 35000 members.
In 1985, Tom joined Equitable Life as a Taft-Hartley account executive. He subsequently joined Smith Barney Asset Management
and established the Taft-Hartley/Public Funds division of the firm which grew assets under management in excess of two billion
dollars. In 2006, Tom left the Firm to focus on third party marketing and other ventures.
Tom is a member of the Board Of Directors of United Benefits & Pension Services Inc., one of the largest Taft-Hartley third
party administrators in the U.S., and serves on the Board of Continuum Health Partners Inc., which operates the Beth Israel
Hospital and the St. Lukes/Roosevelt Hospital in New York City.

He is Chairman of New Democratic Dimensions and a member of the Board of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute in
Washington D.C..
Previously, Tom served as Co-Chairman of the AFL/CIO National Advisory Council of Employee Benefit Professionals, Board member
of the Rutgers University Labor-Management Group, President of the New Jersey State Chapter of LCLAA-an AFL/CIO constituent
organization-, and Vice-Chairman of the New York Foundation.
Additionally, Tom served as a Presidential appointee to the federal Fund for the Improvement of Post Secondary Education and
the Nassau County Civil Rights Commission.
Tom has lived on the upper Westside of Manhattan for the 25 years and has two sons.
He received his B.A. from Brown University and established the Acosta/Boltuch Scholarship at Brown University in 20001.
